It’s been an interesting first 7 weeks of this transformation.  I’ve lost weight every wek until this one.  Gaining 1.3 pounds is not the end of the world, but it does tell me that I need to make some adjustments.  Perhaps I relaxed too much last week in my eating.  I ate dim sum, a burger, fries, a big Sunday breakfast, and pasta.  Plus I drank…and probably too much.  At least it’s not a completely ridiculous gain.  I can easily get back on track this week.

The good news is I’m still right about where I wanted to be by the time I left for Florida this afternoon.  Now, this is not a vanity trip.  I will not be lounging by the pool.  I don’t care about how I look in a swim suit…yet.  This is about setting goals, sticking to the plan, and meeting those goals.

My goal was to have been at 180 by now.  I’m not disappointed with my progress though.  I feel better than I have felt in a long time.  I think I look better.  My clothes are fitting better.  Between joining Weight Watchers, working out with a trainer once a month, lifting weights 2-3 times a week, and running another 2-3 I am on my way to meeting my ultimate goals.

Memorial Day Weekend is 14 weeks away.  That means I have 14 weeks to lose another 19 or so pounds.   I think this is very achievable.  The trick, however will be to maintain that weight (give or take 5 pounds here and there) through the summer, baseball games, vacation, and ultimately through the holiday season.  I refuse to begin 2013 close to 200 pounds again.  And with the continued support of my friends and family – your comments on this blog, and on Facebook have been very encouraging – I feel I can and will do it.

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!   I’m happy today for a number of reasons.  For starters, I’m kicking off my seventh week of my diet – six weeks in, and I’ve lost a total of 13.9 pounds.  That’s an average of 2.3 pounds per week – just above what Weight Watchers considers to be healthy weight loss.  This past week alone, I dropped 3.1 pounds.  I do realize this is not normal.  I should be losing closer to 2 per week, but I’ll take it.  I have conquered my initial goal of 185, and I’m still going.  My second goal was to be close to 180 by the time I left for Florida, one week from today.  I think I will be close.  If I had to guess, I’d say I weight in at around 182.6 next week.

If you click on the Operation Trim page above, I have posted my main photo from every week starting on January 2nd.   As I look at each photo I can really see the difference; especially when comparing January 2nd and today.  My double chin has decreased significantly.  My shoulders and chest look more defined.  And my belly is hanging less over my belt.  Kristina thinks my ultimate goal of 165 will leave me looking too skinny.  So I told her I would level off once the belly fat recedes to where it is no longer hanging over the belt at all.

The beauty of doing all of this with Weight Watchers is I’m still eating pretty much what I want; just not as much of it.  Last week I ate lamb chops, risotto, guacamole, ice cream, pork chops, bacon, these unreal French Toast-like things from this place, Scratch Bread in Brooklyn, and even had a few beers, and scotch.  But at no point during the week did I feel bloated, or overly full.  I’ve also been making a concerted effort to fill up on fruit and vegetables, and drinking lots of water.

Kristina and I are planning our first real vacation since our honeymoon two years ago, most likely to one of the Caribbean islands.  We intend to go in May, at which point I intend to have reached my goal of 165-170.  Even men want to look good in a bathing suit…

Sunday was a big win for my hometown Giants!  Amazingly, it was a win for me too!  Not only did I not completely derail my efforts to this point, but I even lost some weight.  Granted, it wasn’t as much as I would have lost had I not indulged in pizza, beer, scotch, meatballs, taco dip, chicken wings, brownies, and crack pie, but a loss is still a loss, and in this game any loss is still a win, right?

I have a way to go, but I’ll take .4 lbs this week.  I still feel like I’m on track to get close to my goal of 180 by February 21st.  If I had to put money on it now, I’d say I hit 183-184 by that date.  Anyone care to place a wager?

The big challenge will be when I hit Las Vegas at the end of the month.  Sure, it’s a business trip but that does not exclude me from being obligated to enjoy delicious dinners and drinks with clients.  I think that as long as I continue to do what I am doing, try to watch what I eat while away, and get to the hotel gym I’ll be fine.  But we all know what they say about Vegas…

It’s a little hard to see what’s going on in this photo, so I’m just going to explain it…and while we’re at it, we can file this Happy Hour post under Operation Trim as well.

At my last weigh-in I was down over 10 lbs since the beginning of the year.  This week I decided to pull out some clothes that hadn’t been fitting very well, and tried them on.  Some pieces fit pretty nicely; others still have a ways to go.  This sweater, in particular is one I could get away with, but I’ll probably wait another 5-6 lbs before I think about it again.  Last December I attempted to put this on, and couldn’t even get it past my shoulders.  I’m happy.

Today I’ve consumed 14 of my 39 point allotment.  My planned dinner is only about 7 points (yes I planned ahead), leaving me with 19 points to spare.  Since it’s Friday, I think I will treat myself to a martini.  I may go out tonight; I may not.  Kristina has a work event.  So, in the event that I do not go out, come 5:00 I’ll be in the kitchen with gin, vermouth, and a shaker.

Have a great weekend!
